The Mayor of Merton's Visit

We were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Merton to Aragon Primary School in April.
The visit began with an opportunity for the Mayor to meet some of our long-standing members of staff, including Mrs Allan, who is celebrating 40 years of service, and Mrs Blackburn, who has been part of our school community for 25 years. It was a wonderful moment to recognise their dedication and contribution to the school.
The Mayor was then given a tour of the school by Mrs Ryder, alongside two of our Year 6 pupils, who represented Aragon with great confidence and pride. During the tour, Reception children proudly showcased their phonics, and the Mayor particularly admired the high-quality artwork displayed around the school.
A highlight of the visit was a meeting with our School Council. Pupils asked thoughtful and insightful questions about the role of the Mayor and his responsibilities within the local community. The Mayor commented on how much he enjoyed this part of the visit.
The visit concluded with a warm farewell from our Year 2 pupils. In a memorable gesture, the Mayor took the time to shake hands with all 90 children, which was greatly appreciated and will no doubt be remembered.
We are especially proud to share that the Mayor described Aragon as “inspiring” and said it was the best school visit he has ever had.
We would like to thank Mr Mayor for taking the time to visit our school.
