Equality and Diversity

Equality

At Aragon, we are committed to providing equal opportunities for all and valuing the diversity within our school community. We actively challenge prejudice and intolerance, striving to eliminate discrimination in all its forms.

In accordance with the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty, Aragon aims to foster a culture of respect and appreciation for individual differences. We are dedicated to promoting dignity, equality, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring full participation in school life. Our goal is to empower individuals to reach their full potential in a supportive and inclusive environment.

At Aragon, equality means that every member of our school community can participate fully, feeling welcomed, valued, and safe in all aspects of school life.

“Equality means you’re treated equally and have a fair right. I think people with a disability are treated fairly and they join in and are engaged with the lessons. They can do anything I can do!” – Year 5

Diversity

At our school, diversity means recognising and respecting the differences between individuals and celebrating the richness that these differences bring to our community. We promote mutual respect for each other's identities and backgrounds, ensuring that all pupils feel valued and included.

We actively celebrate diversity and raise awareness within the school and the wider community. By teaching children about diversity, we prepare them for life in modern Britain, helping them develop an understanding of different cultures, perspectives, and lived experiences.

“Aragon is a fair school – we let everyone come.” – Year 3
“I see people that look like me in the pictures.” – Year 1

The Equality Act 2010

Our policies and practices are guided by the principles set out in the Equality Act 2010. We aim to instil in our pupils the understanding that everyone belongs, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, ability, or age.

We encourage children to take pride in their differences and to recognise the importance of treating others with fairness and respect. Our approach fosters a school culture where discrimination, bias, and unfair treatment are actively challenged.

“Protected characteristics are things that make us unique, like gender. Some people aren’t accepting, but Aragon is.” – Year 6
