Learning
In Year 6, pupils are taught in Maths and English groups to best support their learning. We believe this approach also helps prepare them for secondary school, where they will transition between different classrooms and teachers. Additionally, this system provides new opportunities for pupils to form friendships.
In the summer term, the children will sit their formal SATs exams. These consist of three Maths papers (one arithmetic and two reasoning papers), a Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar paper, and a Reading Comprehension paper.
PE (Physical Education)
This year we will continue having two PE sessions each week. Both sessions will be taught by your child's class teacher and one will be an outside lesson and one inside. On the day that your child is having an outdoor PE lesson they should come to school wearing their PE kits. However, on the day in which your child's PE lesson is being delivered indoors they must come into school in their school uniform, they will then need to bring their PE kit to get changed into for their PE session. Boys and girls will get changed separately and will remain in their PE kit till home time. Please ensure all items are named.
PE kits should be their house-coloured t-shirt, school jumper and unbranded black or navy bottom. Although jewellery should not be worn as it is not part of school uniform, small stud earrings are allowed, however these will need to be removed or taped over prior to any PE lesson. Please make sure clothing is appropriate to match the weather. Please see below a timetable of your child's PE sessions
Below is your child's PE timetable:
Class | Indoor PE (bring kit to change) | Outdoor PE (Wear kit to school) |
6A | Monday | Friday |
6B | Monday | Friday |
6F | Monday | Friday |

Homework
Please find the Year 6 homework timetable attached. The timetable slightly varies between the Autumn and Spring terms. All homework is due the following day. If homework is not completed, pupils will be required to finish it during lunchtime in an assigned classroom.
Other Information
Year 6 pupils are expected to be excellent role models for the rest of Aragon Primary School. They have opportunities to apply for roles such as house captains, school council members, eco-warriors, and reading champions, among others. They wear red jumpers to signify their role model status, making them easily identifiable to younger pupils who may need assistance.
Year 6 also offers many exciting opportunities. Towards the end of the year, children are invited to attend a residential trip to PGL – a thoroughly enjoyable week promoting independence, teamwork, and essential life skills. To celebrate the end of their primary school journey, we also host an end-of-year production, where pupils showcase their fantastic talents in singing, dancing, acting, and set design.
