Children’s Mental Health Week: Building a Sense of Belonging

Our whole school community came together to take part in Children’s Mental Health Week, exploring the theme “A Sense of Belonging.” Through assemblies and class activities, pupils reflected on what it means to feel part of a group, a community and a safe, supportive environment. There were many thoughtful discussions, with children sharing ideas about where they feel happiest and most secure, both in and beyond school.

In recognition of Safer Internet Day, online safety was a key focus across the week. Pupils learned how to stay safe online and make sensible, responsible choices when using technology. This linked closely to our wider wellbeing work, helping children understand how digital spaces can support – or challenge – their sense of belonging.

A highlight of the week was our whole‑school PSHE art activity, “This Is My Place.” Children created personal maps showing the places and groups where they feel they belong. These meaningful pieces of work will continue to inform and support our wellbeing curriculum throughout the year.

The ever‑popular Silent Disco was another standout success. Each year group enjoyed an hour in the Top Hall, and it was wonderful to see pupils relaxing, dancing and simply having fun together. Staff, along with our Wellbeing Champions and Digital Leads, did a fantastic job ensuring the sessions ran smoothly.

Reflecting on the week, Mr Myers, Assistant Head, said:
“The children really engaged with the theme and spoke confidently about where they feel they belong. The silent disco was a particular highlight for many.”

Overall, the week was a positive and uplifting experience, reinforcing the message that everyone belongs and that wellbeing is something we nurture together every day.
