Year Three

Year 3 Information

Welcome to Year 3

This is Year 3's information page where you can find all relevant information regarding your child's class and daily routines.

Support Staff:
  • Mrs  Fitzpatrick
  • Miss Kitchiner
PE:

We will have two PE sessions each week. One session will be delivered by a sports coach and the other by your child's class teacher.

On the day that your child has PE with the sports coach, they must come to school wearing their PE kit. On the day that PE is taught by their class teacher, children should come to school in their school uniform and bring their PE kit to change into. They will remain in their PE kit until home time.

The school PE kit consists of a house-coloured T-shirt, a school jumper, and unbranded black or navy bottoms. All jewellery must be removed before PE lessons. As many PE sessions take place outdoors, please ensure that your child has suitable clothing for the weather. We would also appreciate it if all items of clothing could be clearly labelled.

Please see below for your child's PE timetable:

Snacks and water:

To support learning and concentration throughout the school day, children are encouraged to bring a healthy snack for morning break. Suitable snacks may include fruit, vegetables, cheese, or other healthy options.

Children should also bring a clearly labelled water bottle to school every day. Please ensure that water bottles contain water only. This helps to promote healthy habits and prevents spillages that can damage books and other school resources. Water bottles can be refilled throughout the day as required.

Reading

Reading is a crucial part of your child's development, and the more confident they become as readers, the easier all learning will be. In Year 3, we would like children to read at home every day, with an expectation that they write three comments in their reading diaries each week. We encourage the children to take ownership of their diaries and write these comments independently whenever possible.

At the front of each reading diary, there is a page of suggested activities to help children create more original and varied responses to their reading.

Children should bring their reading diary to school every day, as it will contain passwords and login details that may be needed for other lessons. Staff will check reading diaries on Mondays, and children will change their reading books as and when needed.

Homework:

In Year 3, no specific homework is set. We ask that children complete their three weekly reading comments and regularly practise their spellings and times tables.

Spellings and times tables will be tested each Friday. Please encourage your child to use Times Tables Rock Stars to help develop their fluency. Login details will be provided and recorded in their reading diaries.

Any other information:

Year 3 will only sit end of term assessments. However, next year they will sit the MTC (Multiplication Times Table Check) which consists of 25 questions. Children have 6 seconds to answer each question. When playing on Times Table Rock Stars, children should attempt to answer questions on the 3-, 4- and 8-times tables. These tables are the new learning for this year group.
