  • Sun cream: In the summer we ask all children to arrive at the Nursery with sun cream already applied and we ask for a bottle to stay in their bag to allow the children to reapply it themselves in the afternoon. Please ensure this is a named tube/pot.
What do I wear to Nursery:
  • White Polo Shirt
  • Navy Blue Crew Neck Sweatshirt
  • Navy Blue Jogging Bottoms/Skirt
  • Black trainers or shoes.

Please see the school website to ensure you have the full school uniform.

Please remember to label all items of clothing with your child's name clearly.

All Aragon Primary logo items are available from Your School Uniform - delivery is free if sent via school.

P.E.

On a Tuesday, Nursery will be having their PE session. Therefore, they can come into school wearing their school PE kits on this day. During winter months, please ensure your child also has their school jumper.

The school P.E kit worn should be as follows: their house-coloured T-shirt, school jumper and unbranded black or navy bottoms. All jewellery must be removed prior to the lesson.

Love of Reading Scheme:

Research shows that children benefit from daily sharing of high-quality stories and poems from a young age: they learn language faster, enter school with a larger vocabulary and become more successful readers (Mol et al., 2008). At Aragon, we value the importance of Early Reading and always ensure every child participates in a daily story session. We want to develop a love of reading both at Nursery and at home. To do this, we have a 'Reading for Pleasure' scheme!

Our Reading for Pleasure scheme enables you and your child to choose a story from our ranging selection of books to take home and share together. Stories provide a great opportunity for discussions about stories and language, and we encourage you to talk about the story with your child afterwards. Talk about the characters, their favourite part of the story, what they can see in the pictures and more!

Every child will be provided with a reading diary where you will be able to record any comments in regard to the stories you share at home, as well as photographs and even encouraging your child to draw pictures relating to the stories they have listened to at home.

Snacks and water:

Free fruit is provided for the children to have as a healthy snack during the school day. Children must come to school with a water bottle (containing water only, not squash or juice) which can be refilled throughout the school day. Please make sure their water bottle is clearly labelled and placed in the water bottle box outside of the nursery entrance.

We hope that this information is useful in supporting your child at home and please do contact any of the Nursery team should you have any queries.

Toilet Training:

We encourage children to start nursery potty trained. Whilst accidents are a normal part of learning, being potty trained helps children feel more confident and comfortable throughout the nursery day.

We understand that every child develops at their own pace and we are here to help. If you are starting or continuing potty training at home, please speak to a member of the nursery team. We can work together to provide consistent support and strategies to help your child become confident and independent in using the toilet.

Please ensure your child has a change of clothes in a named bag while they are learning this important skill. We are always happy to discuss any concerns and offer advice and guidance along the way.

We are starting this term with the topic, Magical Me, we are reading Goldilocks and the three bears, Owl Babies and Funny Bones. We will be leaning about each other’s families and drawing portraits. To support this topic, if you would like to, please send in a family photo for our classroom display.

A member of the Nursery Team will be on the door to greet the children daily, please feel free to come and see us with any messages, communication is important, please be mindful of the entrance ramp, and that it is left clear for the children to enter without congestion to ensure a smooth arrival to school and a positive start to their day.

What do we do in Nursery?

Your child will be encouraged to make their own choices as well as take part in adult-led activities throughout their time in Nursery. Our continuous provision within the environment is set up purposefully to encourage children’s learning and development to take place through their natural curiosity. We observe children individually, ensuring that each child is given the opportunity to learn and develop a broad range of skills through play, based on their interests and level of development.

Children will participate in various carpet and small group sessions each day. These sessions will focus on a range of key learning and skills such as fine motor, early reading and writing, maths, topic-based learning and much more!

Sharing your children’s progress.

Sharing your children’s progress and achievements are vitally important to us. There are a range of ways that we communicate your child’s progress with you:

  • Parent Meeting: You will be invited to a parent meeting within your child’s first term. We will discuss your child’s progress and how well they have settled.
  • 'Peek of the Week' on Class Dojos which we use for recording positive behaviours by sharing the points that the children earn.
  • Seesaw – Our Online Learning Platform: This was used primarily during the lockdown, but we will continue to use this learning platform to set suggested home learning activities, share important information and inform you of our learning that week. You are also able to contribute to your child’s online account by uploading videos, photographs and posts.
  • Open Door Policy: All our staff are happy to answer any queries or questions, so please speak to a member of our team when you drop off or collect your child. You can also email and phone us at any time.
