Computing

Intent

At Aragon Primary School, we want pupils to be prepared to be adaptable to the ever-changing technological world we live in. Technology is everywhere and will play a pivotal role in students’ lives. We want to model and educate our pupils on how to use technology positively, responsibly, and safely. We want our pupils to understand that there is always a choice with using technology and as a trust we model positively the use of technology consistently across the curriculum. We also understand that technology offers accessibility for all pupils and provides equal opportunities for all learners. We also want our pupils to utilise technology creatively across the trust.

Our curricula explore the three main strands of the Computing curriculum: Digital Literacy, Computer Science and Information Technology. We also want to offer our pupils a wide range of technological experiences beginning in EYFS. The teaching of Computing is discreetly imbedded across the EYFS curriculum.

Implementation

At Aragon Primary School, we feel the majority of computing should be embedded in the everyday learning of its students. Every class has a timetabled Computing session each week using various devices. The children’s learning is recording digitally in portfolios and where applicable in cross curricular activities in books. The learning is recorded in a variety of digital formats including videos, pictures, projects, and pupil assessments. We strive to link the children’s learning to real life contexts, experiences, and careers. Children are consistently building on prior knowledge and advancing their digital skills through curricular that revisit prior-learning and building a rich vocabulary of computing language. Teachers are supported in their teaching and learning of the everchanging computing curriculum through regular CPD. Subject leaders are available to assist teachers through various means, in order to assist in the curriculum being taught consistently and monitor the teaching to ensure high standards are maintained across the trust.
