Year Four

Year 4 Information

Welcome to Year 4

This is Year 4's information page where you can find all relevant information regarding your child's class and daily routines.

Support Staff:
  • Miss Pearcey
  • Mrs Ferretti
  • Mrs Stonell
  • Ms Restrepo Giraldo
PE:

We will be having two PE sessions each week. One session will be delivered inside and the other outside. On the day that your child is having a PE lesson delivered outside, they must come to school in their PE kits. However, on the day in which your child's PE lesson is being delivered inside, they must come into school in their school uniform and bring their PE kit with them to change into before their PE session. They will then remain in their PE kit until home time.

The school P.E kit worn should be as follows: their house-coloured t-shirt, school jumper, unbranded black or navy bottoms and sports trainers. All jewellery must be removed prior to the lesson. Please make sure clothing is appropriate to match the weather as one PE lesson will be outdoors. Please make sure everything is labelled as we do not want the children to lose any belongings when changing for P.E in school.

Please see below a timetable of your child's PE sessions

Class Outside Session (come to school in PE kit) Inside Session (bring kit with them to get chabged into)
4A Monday Tuesday
4B Monday Thursday
4E Monday Thursday
Snacks and Water:

We encourage your child to bring in a healthy snack (not crisps or chocolate) to enjoy during their breaktime and all children to come to school with a named water bottle (containing water only, not squash or juice) which can be refilled throughout the school day.

Homework:

Reading with an expectation of x3 comments, spellings and times table practise.

Children will be having a weekly spelling and times table check at the end of the week (Friday). Children should practise their 10 spellings throughout the week in any way that suits them.

Another important aspect of your child’s learning is having a sound knowledge of the times tables and should practise their times tables for a minimum of 10 minutes 3/4 times a week. This should be on Times Tables Rockstars. In Year 4, the children practise all times table facts in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check in June. Again, if we do not see evidence on Times Table Rockstars, children will complete this during their Friday break time. Feel free to play additional times table activities in addition to Times Table Rockstars

Multiplication Tables Check:

Primary-school children are expected to know all their times tables up to 12x12. Under the current National Curriculum, children are supposed to know their times tables by the end of Y4. The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) for Year 4 pupils will take place in England during the first two weeks of June 2026, from Monday 1st June to Friday 12th June.

Reading:

As you are aware, reading particularly to an adult, is a crucial part of your child’s development and will aid your child’s progress tremendously. In Year 4, we expect the children to read at home daily and write 3 comments in their reading diaries across the week. We encourage the children to write their own comments regarding their reading themselves, however we understand if you want to write the comments together or an adult writes 1 comment and the child writes the other 2. In the front of the reading diaries there will be a sheet of activities the children can use to guide their comments. We ask that the children do not complete the same activity within the same week.

Children should bring their diary to school every day. These will be checked every Friday with an opportunity to enter the reading raffle. If the children do not have at least 3 reading comments, they will complete this during their Friday break time.
